The white owl, also known as the snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus), is one of the most iconic owl species, famous for its majestic appearance and for being immortalized in the Harry Potter saga as Hedwig, the young wizard’s loyal companion.

Native to the Arctic regions of North America, Europe, and Asia, the snowy owl is perfectly adapted to extreme cold. Its thick white plumage not only provides camouflage in the snow but also protects it from low temperatures. Males are almost completely white, while females and juveniles have dark markings.

During the summer, they nest on the ground in the tundra and are extremely territorial, fiercely defending their nests if necessary. In times of food scarcity, some snowy owls migrate to more temperate areas in search of prey.
