ANIMALS AND ADVENTURE

OUR ANIMALS

MACAWS

Peñiscola - Guacamayo

Our Macaws

They all come from South and Central America.

Their common characteristics, besides their size, are their long tails and the stripes on their faces.

Males and females do not have external differences. Their reproductive organs are internal, so their sex is determined by analyzing their DNA through a drop of blood.

Macaws have very few natural enemies, except for humans.

Our Cockatoos

All cockatoos are native to Oceania, most of them from Australia.

Their main characteristic is their crest, which varies in color depending on the species. They raise this crest whenever they want (because they are happy or because they are scared). They should not be confused with cockatiels, which, although very similar, are not cockatoos. Cockatiels keep their crest raised at all times.

LEMURS

Peñiscola

Our lemurs

They are called Lemur catta due to their ringed tail.

They prefer gallery forests and shrubs of the Euphorbia genus, although they can also live in other types of forests and jungles in Madagascar. They live around 27 years in the wild and 30 in captivity.

They love to sunbathe with their arms spread out and their belly exposed, in a posture similar to meditation. They do this to warm up during the cold mornings of Madagascar.

ABOUT US

Jardín del Papagayo is an animal sanctuary in Peñíscola where we have rescued animal species in difficult situations to give them the best life possible. Many of the birds in our collection are critically endangered in their natural habitats, which is why this sanctuary plays a vital role in the conservation of these species.

Our team consists of veterinarians and experts in animal welfare, which is why we open our doors to the public every day. We never rest and are always attentive to each of our animal members.
